Balfour Beatty to build 121,000 sq m mixed-use Florida development

The UK’s biggest contractor, Balfour Beatty, has been selected by developer NP International (NPI) to build the 121,000-sq-m mixed-use Gables Station development in Coral Gables, Florida.

The project will contain:

  • Three towers
  • 11,000 sq m of retail space
  • 434 residential units
  • 66 hotel rooms
  • A 1,000-car parking garage

Gables Station will be based on US Highway 1 and adjacent to the Miami Metrorail, offering easy access to the Miami International Airport and downtown Miami.

The development has been designed by architect Jorge Hernandez, working with Gensler, and is expected to achieve LEED Certified Silver criteria.

The project will be connected to the 16-km-long linear park, The Underline, now under construction.

Scott Skidelsky, Balfour Beatty’s president of buildings operations in Florida, said: “NP International develops meaningful projects in close proximity to public transportation systems in urban locations that maximise value for their communities.”

The project is due to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020.
