An office building in the Estonian capital of Tallinn was rushed into contactless mode because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The system installed by Estonian tech company Ninja Solutions lets tenants open doors doors and elevators with their smartphones, and validate their use of rented areas with smartphone biometrics.
Security staff have been replaced by CCTV.
The system goes live today, Ninja Solutions said in a press notice.
Navigator Office Center is located at Laeva Street between the Rotermann Quarter and Tallinn’s Old City harbour.
Tenants include a Bentley Showroom, Carlson Wagonlit Travel’s Tallinn branch, a dental clinic, a private equity company, and a range of advertising firms.
Madis Laas, CIO of Ninja Solutions, said that the integration had been planned for the spring, but the Covid-19 pandemic brought it forward.
"We can run the transition in 10 days almost remotely with our partners despite the border closures," he said, adding that the hardware must already be integrated, and the customer needs to be "highly cooperative".
"The circumstances merged well this time," said Laas. Â
Speaking for the building management company, Direct Invest, Fyodor Poljakov said: "We do not know how long this pandemic will last, but it is unlikely to end in weeks. There are hundreds of people working at our building, and although they primarily work from homes, there is a demand for frequent visits."
To implement the system, Ninja Solutions worked with USS Security, interior climate start-up, R8 Technologies, and elevator specialist Hundt Consult.
